I didn't see the special on the Pima Indians, but I have worked with a
very good group of people who have both done some of the research and
are working to help the People return to their native foods. The group
I'm talking about is called Native Seeds/SEARCH, located in Tucson,
Arizona. They have a Diabetes Program, directed by Felipe Molina. You
can get research material, native foods and seeds through this program.
There is definite evidence that the "Circle-K Diet" has been very
destructive to people in this area of the world.

I suggest that anyone who is interested please contact Felipe Molina at
Native Seeds/SEARCH. By the way, they also offer seeds free to Native
people.

Here is a portion of their statement "Desert Foods to Control Diabetes"

Native Seeds/SEARCH offers "information about the benefits of some
traditional desert plant foods to southwest Native American communities.
These foods are helpful in controlling and preventing adult-onset diabetes,
now a major health problem among Native Americans.
Many traditional foods, proven to be effective in regulating blood sugar,
can be incorporated into a diet low in fat and high in soluble fibers...
A number of effective diabetes-control foods are available, including
beans, nopalitos, chia and psyllium seeds."

Sincerely,
Bonnie Hayford
