A Wecquaesgeek archaeological site known as Wicker's Creek is under threat of
development for housing. A festival to help raise funds to help meet the
legal expenses of opposing this development is planned for Saturday July 13
from 10am to 5pm at Mercy College in the village of Dobbs Ferry (formerly
known as Wysquaqua).

Native speakers, dancers, drumming, storytellers and vendors will be
featured. Because the Wecquaesgeek are an extinct people, representatives
from the Lenape and Mahican nations will be among the key speakers. There
will also be raptor and reptile exhibits, and demonstrations of Woodlands
skills.

This event is co-sponsored by F.O.W.C.A.S. (Friends of Wicker's Creek
Archaeological Site); Society of the P.I.C.T. (Preserve indigenous Culture
and Tradition); and Ferry Sloops Inc. The ultimate goal of these
organizations is to have a park and Native American Woodlands cultural center
at the site.

Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.
The event will take place on the grounds behind Verranzzano Hall. In the
event of rain, the event will take place in the gymnasium.
