This program examines a little known chapter in American history, the
1862 hanging of 38 Dakota men in Mankato, Minnesota, which marked the
largest mass execution in U.S. history and the end of the Dakota
Conflict. Narrated by musician and Mohawk descendant Robbie Robertson,
this program tells of the struggle to preserve the Dakota heritage in the
face of government efforts to destroy its language and culture. (CC,
