American Indian Arts and Crafts Benefit Auction

As Chair of the UA American Indian Scholarship Fund, I am requesting
assistance in acquiring donations of Indian arts (paintings, prints,
sculptures, lithographs, etc.) or crafts (pottery, woven rugs or baskets,
silver work, leather, etc.) that will be auctioned in Tucson on November
10, 1996 with the proceeds benefitting American Indian graduate and
professional students studying at the University of Arizona. No item is
too small.

Having funds available to American Indians who have decided to seek
graduate or professional degrees is a critical need of Indian communities.
We need your help. It is very important that our auction of American
Indian arts and crafts be a success this year in order to build the
momentum necessary to reach our long-term goal of a $2.25 million
endowment fund to provide 15 annual $12,000 fellowships for American
Indian graduate and professional students to study at the UA. So far,
the Fund has awarded $55,000.00 to 24 students representing 15 different
tribes. The Fund now totals $80,000.00 with the interest awarded each
fall semester.

If you would like to donate any arts and crafts items made by American
Indians--that would be greatly appreciated. Or, if you have any friends,
know of any Indian artists/artisans or Indian arts and crafts dealers who
might be willing to help out, and could put us in contact with them--that
would be most helpful. We are hoping to receive donations as soon as
possible to aid us in our planning activities.

For more detailed information and brochures, I can be contacted at the
American Indian Graduate Center, 1610 E. 7th Street, (520) 621-7989.

Thank you for your consideration and assistance.
