A few days ago the following was posted to this list. I have made
major cuts to the original letter:

Then, I said:

While there was no mention in this letter that Wal-Mart had intimated they
were abandoning plans to build at Leeds Flat there HAD been intimation to
the Mohican Nation that they were reconsidering. The intimation surfaced
on a local radio news broadcast and was subsequently confirmed through
"unofficial" contact with Wal-Mart. I am afraid I wasn't entirely clear on
this issue.
As is obvious from the letter originally posted to Native-L, Wal-Mart has
not abandoned their plan to build at Leeds Flat and both the news
broadcast advice and subsequent unofficial "confirmation" of that advice
was in error.
As this message was being composed I was advised that as of 10.1.96 three
more sets of remains have been found at the Leeds Flat site by the
archaeological team. This advice comes the Mohican Nation's representative
to the northest U.S. The State of New York is, as of this writing, not
allowing the remains to be moved.
Your help is urgently needed and I ask that you support the Mohican in
their fight against Wal-Mart's plan to build at Leeds Flat by visiting the
petition site mentioned above.
Best regards to all...
