NEWS RELEASE: NORTH CENTRAL MINNESOTA NATIVE AMERICAN VETERANS OUTREACH
AND RESOURCE CENTER

UPDATE ON PETITIONS FOR REMOVAL:

The Leech Lake RBC canceled a hearing set for Monday regarding the
Minnesota Chippewa Tribal Executive Committee's vote to sensure Sec/Treas
Daniel Brown. The LLRBC has scheduled a recall election to decide whether
Brown, convicted of conspiracy, should serve out his term. The recall
resolution was enacted by the RBC on Wednesday and is unconstitutional as
Chairman Eli Hunt refused to sign it as required by law.

As part of his conviction, Daniel Brown, cannot participate in the
financial dealings of the band. He therefore, cannot logically serve as
treasurer of the band. As a convicted felon he should have been removed
from office as clearly spelled out in the constitution of the Minnesota
Chippewa Tribe. This 'recall election' is one more stalling tactic by the
LLRBC to keep control of the band financial affairs.

Former Sentator Harold 'Skip" Finn's fine was reduced to $25,000 from
$100,000 by U.S. District Court Judge Michael J. Davis. Davis set Finn's
restitution requirement at $400,000 instead of the $100,000 that the U.S.
Attorney's office in Minneapolis requested.
