"FUNDAMENTAL SURVIVAL OF INDIGENOUS CULTURAL AND SOCIAL LIFESTYLE AT STAKE."

As Anglo-Australia lobbies African nations (on the basis of Australia's
record in South Africa) for the coming votes for Australia's bid for a
position on the UN security council, at home Australia's First Peoples
have raised their voices to express their deep worries about the treatment
they are receiving from the new Coalition government.

BLACKS BLAST MABO CHANGES.

Prominent Aboriginal leaders united yesterday to condemn the Federal
Government's amendments to the Native Title Act, accusing it of refusing
to respect indigenous culture.

The Indigenous Working Group on the amendments to the Native Title Act,
which represents Aboriginal groups across the country, delivered a strong
protest to parliamentary secretary Senator Nick Minchin yesterday.

They warned the senator, who is co-ordinating the amendments, that the
"fundamental survival of indigenous cultural and social lifestyle is at
stake."

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, Mr
Mick Dodson, said the amendments "completely fail" to understand the
nature of native title as defined by the by the High Court in ... Mabo"
