MEDIA RELEASE
'The Long Walk Against Racism'
A six day Walk Against Racism will begin on Monday the 25th of
November with a midday rally in Victoria Square. The 'Long Walk'
will see Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people from around
Australia demonstrating their rejection of racism and intolerance
as un-Australian.
"Racism is unacceptable to many Australians. The Long Walk will
be an opportunity for those who reject racism to walk together
for peace, knowledge and protest", said Natalie Harkin, from the
Kumarangk Walking Group.
This journey will travel via Laffers Triangle, Clarendon,
Meadows, Kuitpo Forest, Cox's Scrub and Currency Creek to reach
Goolwa on Saturday the 30th of November. The 'Long Walk' will
conclude with a barbeque and concert to demonstrate
reconciliation between indigenous and non-indigenous
Australians.
The walk ends at the site of the proposed Hindmarsh Island Bridge
which has become a national symbol of the refusal to recognise
Aboriginal heritage.
The walk will witness our opposition to legal or governmental
racism which puts profits before spiritual and cultural values.
