[ I received the following message from Linda and am passing it on to the
NATIVE-L list in hopes that someone can get more details on the story.
If there is someone in that area who can check things out, you might
want to get in touch with Linda to see what else she has been able to
learn meanwhile. --Gary ]

To whoever it may concern;

I recently read in the newspaper (San Jose Mercury News or Palo Alto Weekly)
that a Native American burial site was discovered by a worker excavating a
site for a very large estate in the "sacred hills" of Woodside, CA (Near
Stanford Univ.) The worker was handling a bulldozer excavating for a
basement; and he, in fact, is Native American. He was almost in "shock"
when he discovered the bones and he stopped work immediately.

This siteing has provoked controversy and the owners of the land are not
happy about the findings. I beleive time is of the essence in terms of how
to proceed from here.

I don't know what has happened since I read the article, perhaps you know
more than I do. If you want more accurate infor re: the above, I will give
you some better leads and resources to pursue, as I would need to make some
phone calls, etc. If not, I hope you don't mind my passing this info to you
on the internet.

I am not Indian but I get very touched by these things.
