PROGRAM SCHEDULE FOR 2/3 - 2/7:
Mon - 2/3: Tribal self-government:
The dispute over tribal autonomy continues to be at the
forefront of issues in Indian Country. Tribes are gaining more
local respect and recent court decisions have given them
momentum. Are tribes on the verge of being recognized and
treated as independent nations? Guests include Chickaloon
activist David Harrison and Minnesota appellate court judge Jim
Randall.

Tues - 2/4: Native Drums:
A universal connection between tribes is respect for the drum.
The drum plays significant, yet diverse, roles within each
tribal community. Why does the drum have such special meaning to
native people? What does the drum mean to you and your people?
Guests include Harold Belmont, adopted member of the Northern
Plains "Big Drum" Society.

Wed - 2/5: 105th Congress/Balanced Budget:
A balanced budget is at the top of the national legislative
agenda. What type of legislation is Indian Country likely to see
in the 105th Congress? Are native programs first on the chopping
block of balanced budget proposals? Are there wasteful
government programs that can be cut or eliminated? Guests
include Washington D.C. attorney Julie Petro.

Thu - 2/6: Natives & Christianity:
The influence of Christian ideology on modern-day natives can be
seen in many shapes and sizes. From Protestant influence in the
East, Catholicism in the West, to the Russian orthodox
predominance in Alaska, natives have incorporated Christian
beliefs and customs. How much influence have natives and
Christians had on one another? Guests TBA.

Fri - 2/7: Youth Suicide Prevention:
No statistics carry more grief in Indian Country than the high
number of suicides. Especially disturbing are those cases
involving young people, whose deaths come before they really
ever live. In response, native people across the country are
starting or expanding suicide prevention programs. Do more
programs mean less deaths? Guests TBA.
