Subject: Yellowstone-please support
Good morning all,
Over the past few days I have had the opportunity to speak with some folks
at NPCA. I have learned a few things. Montana is feeling the pressure of a
tourism boycott.
It is my understanding also that Mike Finley, superintendant of YNP is
prepared to close the park. What this would mean is that the trails would
snow over and the bison would no longer have an easy way out of the park.
This obviously would be an unpopular decision with the public. In my
opinion if it did no other good than to draw national attention to the bison
slaughter then it is justified. If you agree that to close the park would
be a good thing to do, please let YNP know you support this move. Mike
Finley will need support to do this.
Superintendant Mike Finley 307-344-2002
Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park, WY 82190
Also, the Governor of Montana has received, as I hear it, a letter from
possibly NFS, USDA and/or APHIS saying that if the bison are allowed by
Montana to forage on NFS land (Gallatin National Forest) their brucellosis
certification will not be put in jeopardy. If this letter exists, I will
try to get a copy of it when it becomes public.
If this is the case then Montana will no longer be able to justify the
slaughter to protect its certification. Because of the action of the State
of Montana, there are now estimations that the bison herd in YNP will be
reduced to one half of its pre-winter size.
