Greetings
I'm new here with this mailing list. I am in great need of
finding some information on a variety of issues concerning the proposed
M.R.S. plan. So far my knowledge is limited and any help, and any
mountain of e-mail would be greatly appreciated.
I am currently collecting information on the subject for my thesis
project, a documentary video. I hope to shoot out west (I'm in NYC) some
time this fall. How I approach this porject will have a great influence
on it's final outcome. So far I have accumulated a fair ammount of
contacts from a variety of sources. I contacted Winona La Duke and Grace
Thorpe about one year ago, and they were a great help. Flood gates of
imformation opened up for me.
Now a key piece of the puzzle is missing, tribal government
participation. I really need a greater understanding of how the apparati
work in the Mescalero and Skull Valley Goeshute tribes. Also, contacting
the upper level members and communicating with these people is quite
nescasary. I feel that to aquire a well rounded story that can approach
the subject in a personal, up-close, yet objective style; a better
understanding (on my part), and a full range of contact in essential.
Finding current information (even on the "fast" paced internet)
can be tedious. Such questions have eluded me:
-> What is the current volume of civillian reactor waste?
-> At what stage of development is the MRS?
-> What is the projected opening for the site?
-> Has a specific tribe been selected?
-> Where, exactly, might the site be located on the selected tribe's
land?
-> What are some of the larger soverginty issues? And how might they
affect tribal soverignty?
-> What are the saftey and liability issues?
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY:
-> What happened whitin the tribes (e.g. public meetings) that have lead up to today?
-> When and where are the future public meetings?
Well I think I have taken up enough of your time for now! I hope
that I will hear some respone. I trust that it will, considering the
