> Fort Sill Chiricahua/Warm Spring Apache leader Mildred I. Cleghorn, of
> Apache, Oklahoma, died early Tuesday morning (April 15) in a car accident
> not far from her home. She was driving her great-grandson to school when
> her car was hit broadside on the passenger's side by another vehicle. She
> died instantly.
We are all immeasurably saddened by Mildred's death here in the area where
she lived and worked for most of her 86 years. She was a regally beautiful
lady, a noble representative of her people! There was a nice story about
her life in Tuesday night's Anadarko paper, and the NBC TV station in
Oklahoma City carried a very sympathetic piece about her passing. I cannot
do better than to quote one of our Comanche friends, "What a tragic end for
one who was born a prisoner."
