Anthropology

The University of New Brunswick invites applications for a
probationary (tenure-track) appointment at the Assistant Professor level
in Anthropology, effective 1 September 1997.

The successful applicant will teach and conduct research in the
area of Native North American anthropology with a specialization in the
northeast preferred. Areas of expertise could include: ethnography and
ethnohistory, culture and education, Native education, Native peoples and
the state, land claims, Native languages, oral history, and indigenous
resource management. Sub disciplinary areas could include: applied
anthropology, anthropology of education, anthropology of ritual and
religion, cognitive/symbolic anthropology, culture and communication,
linguistics, physical/medical anthropology, and visual anthropology.
Since this is a tenure-track appointment in Anthropology which is to be
shared with the Faculty of Education, the successful applicant would have
the opportunity to participate in the work of the Micmac-Maliseet
Institute.

Qualifying applicants will hold a doctoral degree in
anthropology. They will have demonstrated ability in teaching and
research. In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, this
advertisement is directed to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
