Hello NativeNet,

The TEC Meeting is on May 2, 1997 at the Shooting Star Casino at 9:00a.m.

The White Earth Reservation Tribal Council's inaugural ceremonies are
scheduled to take place at the Shooting Star Casino on May 3, 1997.

In regards to the Leech Lake Election: When the Primary Elections were
introduced and the beginning steps for the Primaries to take place by
passing Ordinance 6. It looked like a glimmer of hope for all the
Minnesota Chippewa Tribes.

The Leech Lake Reservation was already in the process of a Special
Election for Secretary/Treasurer, when Ordinance 6 was in its first
stages of motion and implementation. After the election was held and the
new Secretary/Treasurer on Leech Lake Reservation and White Earth
Reservations, it was than, Mr. Pete Defoe, TEC member, declared that his
signature was fraudulent and the primaries were invalid.

The question of who is the Secretary/Treasurer for White Earth is simple,
Erma Vizenor won both elections.

The same question for Leech Lake is different. The first election where
15 candidate ran and this election was followed under the correct
procedures of the MTC Constitution. Walter 'Frank' Reese won this election
with the majority votes, followed by Linda Johnston. The second election,
which followed under the new procedures of Ordinance 6 and now under
question of its validity. This is the reason the MTC TEC will not
swear-in newly elected reservation officials.

The Leech Lake Reservation General Council will be attending the MTC TEC
quarterly meeting with the question of: "Will the Tribal Executive
Committee start following the fundamental laws and principles of the MTC
Constitution?"

Also, the Leech Lake Reservation General Council has their own webpage
that includes updates, editorials from tribal members, educational
information. Our URL is:
