Concerned Tribal Members of the Mole Lake Sokaogon Chippewa Community Take
Over the Tribal Administration Building in Mole Lake, Wisconsin

Approximately 40 Mole Lake tribal members of the Mole Lake Sokaogon
Chippewa Community near Crandon, Wisconsin have taken over the tribal
administration building. They took over the tribal offices this Thursday,
May 1, 1997. Some of the issues that the tribal community members are
concerned about are related to Exxon/Rio Algom's Crandon mine development
and tribal affairs. The concerned community members are asking for the
removal of their Tribal Chairman, Arlyn Ackley Sr.; an investigation of
the association of Wisconsin Governor Thompson and his attorney's with
Exxon's interference with Mole Lake tribal operations; a restoration of
their civil rights and employee rights; an audit of all tribal funds
including casino funds; and the removal of their tribal environmental
engineer and tribal planner.
