The 8th Annual IEN Protecting Mother Earth Conference will be held at the
Fort Belknap Indian reservation, August 4-7, 1997. This Turtle Island
Indigenous grassroots gathering is co-hosted by the White Clay Society and
Buffalo Chasers Society and supported by the Fort Belknap Indian
Community. Theme: "The Mountains Are The Heart of The People." A campout
gathering, day care provided, meals provided, bring your tipi's, youth
events, workshops and trainings on environmental protection and protection
of our sacred sites and natural resources, renewable energy and
traditional ecological knowledge, issues of nuclear, toxic, clearcutting,
water and air quality and persistant organic pollutants. Fort Belknap

INDIGENOUS WOMEN'S CONFERENCE BROADCAST VIA THE INTERNET
AUSTIN, Texas. Between May 29 and June 1, the Indigenous Women's
Network Third Biennial Gathering will be held at Alma de Mujer near Lake
Travis. Monsterbit Media will broadcast a series of keynote addresses
from the conference site. These LIVE Internet broadcasts will feature a
variety of Indigenous human rights activists from the Americas and the

Titled "Health Solutions for Sustainable Communities," the conference
keynote speeches will focus on issues critical to the survival of
Indigenous women. The gathering will stimulate discussion and provide a
forum for women to share visions, stories, present testimony as to
conditions, and look to strategies and alternatives to make a better
future for our families and communities.
IWN was founded in 1985 to support the self-determination of Indigenous
women, families, communities and nations, in the Americas and Pacific
basin. Our philosophy of working within the framework of the vision of
our elders, grounds our strategies with centuries old wisdom and
encourages us as we prepare for our future.
