(Please except my apologies for the lateness of this post, due to technical
difficulties. ef..)

Every new moon in 1997 at 5 am in Ashland, Oregon and other parts of the
U.S. and world (8 est, 7 cst, etc), we will be praying for Unity. All are
asked to join in this prayer time, and share this information with others
in your local communites as we hope this will be a growing prayer circle
for the sake of the Sacred Hoop and all our Relations. We will continue
praying for the Elders, Buffaloes, Sun Dancers, Respect, Sobriety,
Sovereignty, Children, Grandmother Earth and Grandmothers.

This month we want to give Thanks to Great Spirit that our prayers for our
brothers and sisters via NY have been answered. The governor of NY was
restrained from violating the law of the land concerning jurisdiction and
taxation.

Arvol Looking Horse, and lawyers Steve Emery, Tom Van Norman and Steve
Gunn, have asked for our prayer as they prepare for court in two weeks to
protect our sacred site - Devil's Tower (Grey Buffalo Horn Butte or Bear
Lodge).

My grandfather Hollow Horn, was arrested and sent to prison for Sun Dancing
at Bear Lodge. My niece, Charlotte Black Elk, brought back a Sun Dance in
Hollow Horn's honor which has been held at Bear Lodge for many years. We
have to protect our sacred sites. Hollow Horn's imprisonment for
practicing our religion shows we have had no voice, and that the treaties
continue to be abused. Today , we must find a voice, to stand up and Walk,
to keep our rights for the 7 generations to come. Crazy Horse once had a
voice, and people listened, but today we have to have Unity so that our
voice will be strong and people will listen. All Indian Nations need to
have one voice, and so we use this English language to come together. So
on June 16th, we will Walk together in respect and honor to the White House
in Washington DC, in an attempt to end Termination Thru Taxation (TTT).

We also need to remember our Sun Dance brothers in British Columbia in our
prayers who are due to be sentenced 5 June, 1997.

Mitakuye oyasi,
Dave Chief
Lakota Elder

Sacred Sites Information

The Native American Religious Freedom Act of 1978 gave Indians freedom of
religion. Clinton's executive order #13007 of May 24, 1996 guarantees that
sacred sites will be protected, that Indians will be allowed access, and
that the physical integrity of sacred sites will be maintained.

The owner of Tower Guides in Morcroft, Wyoming, Andy Petefish, who brought
the suit for the use of the site in ceremonial season, is typical of
non-indians who are uninformed because the American Educational Assoc.
continues to suppress information regarding Indian treaty rights and the
fact that, historically, Indians have not been allowed to use the Bill of
Rights to defend themselves.

In Canada, sentencing for the Sun Dancers in Birtish Columbia is scheduled
for June 5. Title remains with indigenous people for all unceded land,
according to international law. The land in question is unceded. How can
Indians be guilty of trespassing on unceded land?
