Letter of Protest - ACTION FOR NUCLEAR ABOLITION!

Dear,

Your country is going to conduct the first of two "sub-critical" nuclear
weapons related experiments today on Tuesday on the Nevada Test Site (NTS)
- again on the Shoshone?,s land, the natives of the area who have already
suffered many times the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, against the
human rights, against the recent decision of the World Court. Conducting
these tests would create a norm in which any country that wanted to
continue nuclear weapon research and design would find their way around
the recently signed Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.

The nuclear weapons tests must be cancelled because they will:

* Subvert the global ratification process of the CTBT and create
international distrust of the U.S.'s nuclear intentions!

* Further contaminate the land and ground water of Southern Nevada!

* Waste millions of dollars which needs to be spent on clean up and
monitoring of NTS!

FOR MOTHER EARTH BELGIUM is convinced that at a time when global opinion
weighs heavily in favor of nuclear disarmament, as shown by this decision
of the International Court of Justice and the establishment of the CTBT,
your country's plan to conduct the tests at NTS deserves severe criticism
from the international community. It is a reckless act that invites
similar tests by other nuclear states and that may stir up another nuclear
arms race.

We demand that the United States --as a world leader -- cancel the planned
experiments, completely suspend all further tests that promote the
development and maintenance of nuclear weapons, and take a leading role in
the struggle for nuclear disarmament.

Yours sincerely,

FOR MOTHER EARTH BELGIUM
