Robert West #731, Ellis 1 Unit, Huntsville Texas 77434-0001 is now facing
a July 29th 1997 execution date. He has been active in prison support for
some time now. During his incarceration he has been a thorn in the side
of those authorities who have been abusing and killing prisoners in
Texas. From 1988 to 1995 he was on the editorial staff of the 'Endeavor'
newspaper. The Endeavor is a prison support magazine that brings to light
the discrimination and prejudice of the death penalty and advocates its
abolition. It also gives a forum for Death Row inmates to print their
injustices and say their piece. From 1994 til now he has solely put out
the Texas Execution Alert Newsletter which gives updates on curruption in
the justice system, informs about upcoming executions and anti-prisoner
legislation across the US.
Bobby is 1/2 Northern Cheyenne. He has been a key player in hunger strikes
for better conditions and for active protests against under represented
and improverished inmates. He has observed and continues to put out
information about corrections guard's and administration's abuses on the
inside. He has been one of the few outspoken contacts for the 'Concrete
Truth' magazine that once cataloged abuse by prison authorities. He also
makes sure in every way possible that the injustices inside about himself
and other inmates gets out to open ears.
Now the State of Texas wants to execute him for a capital offense in the
murder of Deana Klaus. The State alleges that he killed her for a
contrived necklace in a robbery attempt (none of which was found on her,
or was exhibited as evidence in his trial. Deanna Klaus had pointed out
Bobby's brother, Brett Barstow, to be killed by a William Longfellow, for
the sum of $ 25. Longfellow then murdered Bobby's brother. Anger, grief
and alcohol ridden, Bobby set out to find his brother's murderers. He was
arrested before he found Longfellow. Bobby is anti-authoritarian in every
sense of the word. To let the State of Texas execute him would be a loss
to the struggle against oppression.

We ask you for CLEMENCY for Robert West. This man has been a key player
in hunger strikes for better life conditions and for active protests
against under represented and impoverished inmates. The State of Texas is
known as 'Death Penalty Capital of the Western World'. Maybe you are
proud of this title but you can be sure that most of the civilized
countries feel sick of this unjust and cruel game that you play with the
lifes of your citizens. Do you call the 'death penalty' an act of
justice? For us it is equal to cold-blooded murder. No one has the right
to take someones life but the Creator.
We do hope that you understand that we European citizens are proud of our
civilisation and can not accept such a barbaric system as yours and
therfore we demand clemency for ROBERT WEST who is facing his execution
date at the end of the month.
