PROGRAM SCHEDULE for 8/4 - 8/8
HOST: TOM BEAVER WELLNESS HOST: SHARON McCONNELL
MON - 8/4: U.S./Canada Border:
Before there was a United States or Canada...native people were living a
neighborly life with no dividing lines. How has the establishment of these
two nations disrupted tribal relationships? Join us as we discuss borders
between the lower forty-eight states, Canada, and Alaska. Guests include
Jeanette Armstrong of the Enowkin Center in British Columbia.

TUE - 8/5: Firewater Myth Doused:
A recent study from the Scripps Research Institute suggests that Native
Americans are no more affected by the acute effects of alchol than any
other ethnic group. This contradicts the long held belief that we are more
sensitive to the effects of alcohol. Are native people more subsceptible
to alcohol related illnesses and physiological traumas than others? Guests
include Dr. Cindy Ehlers of TSRI.

WED - 8/6: Indigenous Environmental Network:
Indigenous representatives from around the world are attending the
Indigenous Environmental Network Conference at the Ft.Belknap reservation
in Montana. They attend to develop strategies to protect their lands. How
has environmentalism helped unfiy the global Indigenous population? Guests
include IEN director Tom Goldtooth.

THU - 8/7: Vanished Tribes of California:
Many tribes in California are not federally recognized and are without a
landbase. How is this affecting their efforts to maintain their culture?
Can they develop an economic base without federal recognition? What can be
done to help these tribes get on a level playing field with federally
recognized tribes? Guests include attorney Steve Quesenberry.

FRI - 8/8: Dog/Animal Safety:
A dog may be mans best friend, but sometimes a dog can become a childs
worst enemy. Every year children are hurt and even killed by dogs.
Meanwhile, some children fall victim to other animals...like horses...that
they and their parents trusted. How common is this threat? Join Sharon
McConnell as she examines animal and child safety.
