August 4th, 1997 - Cathy Freeman, an aboriginal woman from
Australia, won the gold medal in the 400 meters at the World
Championships of track and field. During her victory lap, she
carried TWO flags: Australia's, and the Aboriginal Colors. [you
go, girl!]

The World Championships, being held in Athens this year, are
the most important track and field event outside of the Olympics.
Cathy Freeman became the first [australian-] aborignal person to
win a gold medal in the history of the meet.
