However, I must take exception to your statement. Why do people in
the Balkans feel it is still necessary to expiate grievances that are
hundreds of years old?
Most Native Americans decry continued ethnic strife. Although I
believe that many, if not most, Serbians are not responsible for the
current atrocities committed against the people in Kosovar, your
govennment is. It is this same sentiment that many American citizens
express when confronted with the continuing assaults on Native
American sovereignty and rights, namely, "I didn't commit these
acts--I'm not responsible for what my government does!"
But all citizens are ultimately responsible for what their government
does. If you are so concerned about NATO bombing, stop committing
crimes against your fellow citizens, and tell your government to do
the same. We Native Americans have long been trying to convince our
government that we need our treaty rights respected, but we don't go
around killing off all white people. It is against our beliefs.
Peoples of different cultures all over the world MUST stop killing
each other; it is against the Creator's law. Meet with the Kosovars
to peacefully settle your disputes, so that the rest of the world can
cease intervening. Accept the way of peace, stop the violence,
unilaterally if necessary. Tell your leaders to stop the Kosovar
Trail of Tears. That is what I have to say.
